The Attorney General’s Office is still studying the decision of the Supreme Court to reject the appeal made by activists demanding that the court review an acquittal of murder charges on a top intelligence officer.
“We are analysing the decision. I am not yet in charge of making the decision,” Attorney General Basrief Arief said Friday.
Former top National Intelligence Agency (BIN) officer Muchdi Purwopranjono, was acquitted of all charges by the South Jakarta District Court in December 2008 regarding the murder of human rights activists Munir Said Thalib.
Munir was poisoned with arsenic on a Garuda Indonesia flight.
The Supreme Court rejected an appeal against the acquittal by activists in 2009.
Representatives from the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) made a visit that day to the AGO to urge a review of Munir’s case, Basrief said.
Usman Hamid from Kontras said that the request had been received well by the AGO.
